In July, brodiedean8 finished giving away 2029. The first and third rounders went to goochshot for Julius Randle and Isaiah Collier. The second had already gone to matticus808 in the Yves Missi swap. The league favorite now heads into that draft with nothing of his own to call, and that is the quiet bet the rest of Da League is making against him.
What We're Watching: goochshot is buying the decline
goochshot has been the man on the other side of brodiedean8's shopping. In the July deal he sent out Julius Randle and Isaiah Collier and took back Davion Mitchell, Moussa Diabaté, and both of brodiedean8's 2029 picks, the first and the third. Read the players and it looks like a lateral move for role guys. Read the picks and it is something colder. That 2029 first only pays off if brodiedean8's Stephen Curry and Trae Young core has aged out by then, which means goochshot didn't trade for Mitchell and Diabaté so much as trade for time.
The counter-case is real. Moussa Diabaté reportedly faces more competition for minutes in Detroit heading into 2026-27, and Davion Mitchell's return could get complicated by Kasparas Jakucionis in Miami, so the bodies goochshot took back carry rotation risk, not certainty. That is fine by the logic of the deal. goochshot isn't leaning on those two to win him anything. He is holding a first-round pick on a contender he expects to fall, and if brodiedean8 wins now and reloads, the pick lands late and goochshot loses the trade cleanly. This is a wager with a date on it.
Who should care, and what changes next?
Around the League
matticus808 kept doing what the Asset Board flagged: hoarding firsts, spending the loose change. He pried Cason Wallace out of goochshot by sending three second-rounders, Nighthawk2334's 2027, brodiedean8's 2028, and BigSuge's 2027, none of them his own premium equity. It is a clean way to add a real rotation guard without touching the stash of future firsts that makes him the league's long-term lever. He also flipped Yves Missi to brodiedean8 for Cameron Carr and, again, a slice of brodiedean8's future in the 2029 second. Between him and goochshot, brodiedean8's 2029 draft board now belongs to two other franchises.
brodiedean8, for his part, has not stopped churning the wire, a run of small adds and drops around the edges of a roster he has already decided is built to win. The stars are set. The margins are still moving.
What We're Hearing
Stephen Curry is reportedly not a trade candidate in Golden State, praised inside the building as a leader, which is stability at the top of brodiedean8's order and also the exact thing goochshot is betting against. Curry's age is the clock on this whole win-now build, and every 2029 pick brodiedean8 shipped is another GM starting that clock for him. Julius Randle, meanwhile, has surfaced in hypothetical trade chatter tied to Denver's Jokić situation. That noise doesn't change what brodiedean8 bought. He wanted Randle's production for a title push this season, and real-world rumor doesn't move a fantasy line score.
The pick brodiedean8 sent out won't be graded until 2029. goochshot and matticus808 are both content to wait, which tells you exactly what they think happens to the favorite between now and then.
