So tally the core: Kevin Durant, Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, Jayson Tatum, Ja Morant. Every one of those names is real talent. Every one of those names also comes with a reason to flinch. Davis is reportedly the subject of Golden State trade chatter and rumors he wants out of Washington, which is exactly the kind of situation that scrambles a fantasy anchor's role and minutes. Morant's availability has been a career-long question. This is a bottom-feeder spending future firsts to assemble a roster whose oldest, best pieces are the ones most likely to miss time. A 6-15 team does not get to skip the rebuild by buying the most fragile expensive parts on the lot. It just gets to be 6-15 with a thinner draft.

We graded that deal when it happened. The self-awareness is the only thing on that roster I fully trust to show up healthy.
