He said he was "always open for business." Within a few days the man had reorganized the draft board around his own appetite, and he'd stopped pretending it was a hobby.
"I'm a fein."
He said it twice. Once as a full sentence, once attached to a question. "Draft today? I'm a fein." There is no spinning that. That is a confession, filed in public, with witnesses.
Here is the part that should embarrass the rest of you: matticus808 is new, and he out-traded the league's longest-tenured trade addict in his first month. brodiedean8 has spent two years as the resident @all menace, the guy who tags ten people to move a third-rounder. This off-season he met someone with a faster trigger and started sliding into the new kid's DMs. brodie tagged matticus with one word, "DMs," and a follow-up of "👀🤒," which is the chat equivalent of leaving a voicemail you immediately regret. The student matched the master, then turned around and sold Trey Murphy back into the room for two firsts, talked alecb5 out of Chet Holmgren, then flipped Tyler Herro for parts before the ink dried. The picks ledger now reads like matticus808 is operating a pawn shop and everyone keeps coming back to buy their own stuff at markup.
And he is unbothered. Challenged on a roster move, he offered the entire philosophy of the franchise: "You know what's fun? Having dudes on your team in your dynasty." When somebody poked at one of his guys he closed the conversation with "My poku let me be," which is going on a T-shirt. The man even saw the coverage coming and welcomed it: "Can't wait to hear ai bill simmons roast me on that." Fein behavior, but self-aware fein behavior, which is somehow worse.
Meanwhile the deposed trade king kept hitting the bell anyway. brodiedean8 ran a one-man telethon. "Drunk who wants to make trades." "The trades flowing like fine wine today." At one point he put his own 2029 capital on the curb: "I got 3 picks available. 2029 1st 2029 2nd and 2029 3rd, come shop." Three years of future picks, offered like leftovers nobody wanted to take to work. He insists this is everyone else's fault. "You boys are about to turn me bad again." He also told the room he'd "rather have an empty roster slot than some of you slouches," which is a bold thing to say while begging the same slouches to answer your trade block.
In the corner, arms crossed, sat Nighthawk2334, who has clearly decided the group chat is beneath him and cannot stop typing in it. He confirmed the old members aren't coming back. "Michael ain't coming back lol." He confirmed he's checked out: "Just not a fan of the association anymore."
Petty Awards, Off-Season Edition
Fastest descent into addiction: matticus808, who skipped the small talk and went straight to "fein." Most picks shopped per capita: brodie, who has now offered the entire 2029 class to a room that politely declined. Best impression of a man leaving a party he refuses to leave: Nighthawk. Honorable mention to alecb5, who watched goochshot melt down and simply said "Let him cook," then let him.
matticus808 showed up, said he was a fein, and proved it by collecting half the future before anyone learned his team name. The rest of you had two years to be that honest about yourselves.
