JACKWelcome back to League Radio. Week 4 of the 2026 season and this league is already drawing blood. I'm Jack Monroe, we've got Marcus Vale, Alex Mercer, Ben Harper, and Nico Hart in the building. Let's get into it. Marcus, who's walking out of Week 4 looking like they own this league right now?
MARCUSI'm going straight to Nighthawk. Shane Gillis Alexander. Look at that roster and tell me that's a team that just sleepwalked through Week 4. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Alperen Sengun, Jamal Murray, Jalen Duren — that's a starting five that can hang with anybody. And the thing about Nighthawk is he doesn't need to be loud about it. He just keeps showing up. He eliminated the greatest regular season team in league history last year at 11 and 10. Eleven and ten, Jack. That man is built different.
JACKHe really is a different creature in this league. But I want to pump the brakes slightly because it is Week 4, nothing has been decided, and the league is all zeros in the standings right now. Which is actually kind of the whole story this week. Everyone's at zero. Which means the embarrassment window is still wide open. Alex, who's in the hot seat?
ALEXI'm not waiting on anyone to have a bad week to put them on notice. I'm doing it preemptively because the evidence is already there. blakeeverroad. I know he's technically in the league. His name is on the roster. His team is called Ayton on Brodie's Team — which, by the way, is the single most self-aware thing anyone has ever named a franchise — but the man left. He quit. He walked out after the Giddey trade paid off for somebody else and he could not handle being in the room while alecb5 hoisted the trophy. And now his roster is just sitting there. Paul George, Kyrie on IR, Domantas Sabonis on IR, Mikal Bridges. That is real talent attached to a ghost. And until the league figures out what to do with that roster, every game blakeeverroad plays is either dead weight or a charity win for whoever gets the matchup. That is an accountability issue. Not for Blake. For the league. Someone has to make a decision about that roster before Week 4 turns into Week 8.
JACKThat is a fair point and it has been hanging over this league since the draft. Ben, what's happening on the transaction wire? Any notable moves this week?
BENSo we're in pre-season mode heading into Week 4 in terms of standings — the 2026 season has not officially recorded any wins or losses yet — but the roster construction tells a story on its own. What I'm watching closely is the IR situation across the league and it is significant. brodiedean8 has Cade Cunningham on IR. goochshot has Damian Lillard, Dereck Lively, and Zach Edey all on IR simultaneously — that is three roster slots locked up by guys not playing. Nighthawk has Fred VanVleet, Lauri Markkanen, and Jaren Jackson all on IR. And Natebarrett5 has Noah Clowney, Jaylen Wells, and Thomas Sorber on IR. The teams that have healthy depth right now have a real early-season advantage. The teams that are burning through IR slots are playing with a shorter bench. That is the transaction story of Week 4. Health, or the absence of it, is already separating these rosters before a single game has been decided.
JACKThe injury tax is real and it hits early in dynasty. You build a team around Cade Cunningham and then Cade Cunningham is on your IR in Week 4. That is genuinely tough. Nico, what's the chat saying this week?
NICOThe league is saying two things simultaneously and they kind of contradict each other. One, everyone is keeping an eye on brodiedean8 because his roster is still absurd on paper — Jokic, LeBron, Steph Curry on the bench, Brandon Ingram — like that team is built to dominate. But two, nobody trusts it. The league has seen 19 and 2. The league has seen what happened after 19 and 2. So there's this energy where people respect the roster and are waiting for the other shoe to drop at the same time. And then there's a separate conversation happening about alecb5 because he still doesn't have a team name. No name. The reigning champion is walking into 2026 completely anonymous. Luka, Bam, Jaylen Brown, Chet Holmgren — that is a championship roster with no name on the door. The league is noticing that. Whether it's confidence or just not caring, nobody's sure.
MARCUSI'll tell you what it is. It's someone who knows the trophy already has his name on it once. You don't need to decorate the building when you own the building.
ALEXOr it's someone who's about to find out that Giddey carrying a team works exactly once before everyone adjusts.
JACKThat is the defining question for alecb5 this season, isn't it. Can he win it without the Giddey trade being the central narrative. Last year the story writes itself — Blake hands over the keys, alecb5 drives it to the championship. This year there's no gift. There's no Blake. There's just a roster that has to be managed correctly for twenty-one weeks. And Giddey is still there on the bench, by the way. He is still on that team. The ghost is still haunting Brodie from the same roster. I cannot imagine what it is like to be brodiedean8 and see Giddey on that bench week after week. He is a man who offered Okongwu, Franz Wagner, Shaedon Sharpe, and Jalen Suggs for that player and got told no. And now Shaedon Sharpe is on michaelhebb's roster. Franz Wagner is on michaelhebb's roster. All of those pieces scattered across the league and alecb5 has the one that mattered.
BENAnd to add a factual layer to that — Brodie's 2025 season ended with the best regular season record in league history. 19 and 2. And he lost in Round 1 to an 11 and 10 team. Those two facts will share the same sentence forever in this league's history.
MARCUSNighthawk did not apologize for that and he will not apologize for it.
NICOThe chat does not let Brodie forget it either. Every time his team looks loaded, someone in the group is doing the math on what 19 and 2 got him. It is a tax he pays every single week just by being in the league.
JACKAlright let me give you my closing take and I want to hear the heat I'm going to get for this. The team I am most nervous about in 2026 is not brodiedean8. It is not alecb5. It is 44Colt. Wet Like I'm Book. You look at that starting lineup — Kawhi Leonard, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kristaps Porzingis, Karl-Anthony Towns, Devin Booker, Trae Young, Evan Mobley — that is a roster with four legitimate top-twenty fantasy players on the floor at the same time. The question has always been Kawhi's health and I understand that concern completely. Kawhi Leonard is a man who plays basketball in thirty-game intervals and then disappears. He is on IR right now as we record this. But here is what I believe — if Kawhi gives 44Colt even forty-five healthy games this season, that roster is the most dangerous in this league because it has the best combination of star power and depth. Giannis and KAT in the same frontcourt is violence. Add Trae Young running point and Booker shooting off the catch. That team is built to win a championship. 44Colt has been close before. Lost to michaelhebb by half a point in the playoffs last year. Half a point. I am not sleeping on that team and you should not either.
MARCUSYou're going to feel very stupid when Kawhi plays eleven games and the season is over for them by January.
ALEXHalf a point, Jack. He lost his playoff spot by half a point. That is a man who has stared directly at the sun twice and not gotten the tan he deserves.
