Trade Grades: brodiedean8 Buys a Center, matticus808 Buys Time

brodiedean8 sent Cameron Carr and a 2029 second-round pick to matticus808 for Yves Missi. That's it. One center in, one point guard and a distant pick out. It's a small trade in a pre-draft window where most of the league is sitting on its hands waiting for the 2026 draft to reorder everything, and small trades in July are usually one of two things: a roster-shape fix, or a rebuilder collecting lottery tickets from a team that thinks it's closer than it is. This one is both at once, which is why it grades out well on both sides instead of one team walking away with the room. brodiedean8 is running the same thing he's run for two seasons, a roster built to win now, and HeHateMe has never been shy about paying a little future freight to patch a present hole. matticus808 is doing the opposite math. If he's right about his own team, that pick is worth very little. If he's wrong, if the roster ages badly or a rebuild starts before 2029, that pick becomes a real asset in someone else's file.

That's the whole grade. He solved a real problem with a surplus piece and a pick he has a defensible reason to discount. The reason it stops at B and doesn't climb higher: Missi is not a finished product, and a center whose value is tied to minutes and role is a center whose value can evaporate on a Tuesday. brodiedean8 is betting on the role holding. Cameron Carr is the piece that decides whether this ages into an A or slides to a C. He's a point guard on a team that has time to find out what he is, which is the single best environment for a young guard. brodiedean8 couldn't give him that. matticus808 can, and giving a player runway he wouldn't otherwise get is how rebuilds actually generate value rather than just accumulating names.

The knock is that he gave up the most proven asset in the deal. Missi has a defined role right now. Carr and a 2029 second are both bets. If you're grading on certainty, matticus808 lost this trade. If you're grading on where each team sits, he traded a present asset for two future ones while sitting nowhere near contention, and that's the process you'd sign off on in the room every time.

matticus808 won this by a hair, not a mile. He got two assets for one, and he got them from a team whose window makes the pick more likely to land in useful territory than the seller usually gets. But brodiedean8 doesn't lose here, because the thing he needed was a center and the thing he gave up was a guard he had spares of plus a pick three drafts away. Both GMs paid a fair price for the thing they actually needed. The version of this where somebody got fleeced would have involved a first, and it didn't.
