You don't trade youth for thirtysomethings unless the window is now. So the 2027 first Natebarrett5 holds probably lands in the teens, mid-first at best, because Giannis and Booker will still be dragging that team into the middle of the standings. The 2028 and 2029 firsts are the ones that print. That's when the age cliff arrives, and matticus808's 2029 slot is the last domino, positioned exactly where the fall should be steepest. Late-first price on the near pick, lottery upside on the far ones. Correctly sequenced.

Now the bet I'd sell. brodiedean8 traded away every future first he owns: the 2027 to BigSuge, the 2028 to Natebarrett5, the 2029 to goochshot. Three franchises are all holding a piece of the same idea, that HeHateMe finally craters. The problem with that idea is that brodiedean8 didn't tear down for nothing. He turned that capital into Amen Thompson, Stephon Castle, Derik Queen, Trae Young, and a stack of teenagers in Chris Cenac and Jayden Quaintance. Amen Thompson is already an ascending real rotation piece in Houston, and the rest of that group hasn't hit its second contract's worth of development. A young core that improves is a core that wins games it isn't supposed to. If that happens, all three of those sold firsts land in the twenties and the buyers priced a lottery ticket and got a coupon. goochshot's 2029 slot is the most exposed, because it's the furthest out, which gives brodiedean8's kids the most runway to make it worthless. We flagged goochshot cornering 2029 as a coup. The coup only cashes if brodiedean8's rebuild fails, and nothing about that roster says it will.

The worst-timed bet in the class belongs to matticus808, and it sits right next to his best one. He holds alecb5's 2028 first. alecb5 is the defending champion, and this summer he re-armed instead of coasting, pulling back Walker Kessler and adding Tyrese Haliburton alongside Jaylen Brown, Immanuel Quickley, and Toumani Camara. A champion who upgrades in July is not a team you expect in the 2028 lottery. That pick profiles like a pure late-first, the kind of asset you hold as a throw-in, not a centerpiece. Good thing matticus808 also owns 44Colt's 2029, or that side of his ledger would read like a man collecting other people's victory laps.

The shrewdest bet nobody's discussed is lilsweet96's. He holds BigSuge's 2027 first, and BigSuge is the one contender whose floor is genuinely a trapdoor. The Flat Earth Advocates went all-in, stacking Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, Ja Morant, Jalen Green, and Darius Garland. Every one of those names carries a real-world availability flag heading into 2026-27: Jalen Green's first Phoenix season was reportedly wrecked by injuries, Garland was reportedly dealing with toe surgery, and Davis and Irving have spent careers in and out of the training room. A roster that good with that many bodies at risk is exactly the profile that either wins big or collapses to the lottery with nothing in between. lilsweet96 bought the downside for cheap. That's a mid-first with a real path to jumping the queue.

On whether the top of the order was earned or engineered: it will be earned on the floor next spring, since the standings sit at 0-0 and nobody has banked a loss yet. But ownership of the order was engineered months ago. The picks that matter have already been pulled off the teams most likely to make them, which is the through-line of everything we've written this month. The draft position and the draft asset now belong to different people. That's the league's new normal.

In a market where everyone else mortgaged a year, standing still is a position too.
