AJ Dybantsa prices out as the sharpest draft pick anyone in this league has made in a year, except it is no longer a pick. It is a rostered rookie with a locker and a roster ID. That is the fact that reorders this whole class: the most valuable draft assets in Da League right now are not the firsts still floating between ledgers, but rather the young players the picks already turned into, and most of them are off the board.
Everybody keeps pricing this draft by who holds the paper. Fair, because the paper is stacked in obvious places. Natebarrett5 owns 44Colt's 2027 first, 44Colt's 2028 first, and brodiedean8's 2028 first. matticus808 owns goochshot's 2027 first, alecb5's 2028 first, and 44Colt's 2029 first. We have written that story from three angles this month, so I will not re-map it. What nobody has priced is the other half of the same rebuild: the picks that already cashed.
The Picks That Already Cashed
Start with matticus808, because Sam Presti's Burner is running both strategies at once. He holds three teams' future firsts, and he already converted a separate stack into names. Chet Holmgren came back in the Haliburton reversal, the former No. 2 pick whose Thunder are managing his health for the postseason, which is a dynasty tailwind more than a worry, since a big man being handled carefully is a big man with a decade of value. Darryn Peterson landed in the same rebuild, and Utah's real front office is already counting on him to pull defensive attention off Lauri Markkanen, which is exactly the usage arc you want on a rookie you plan to hold. matticus808 didn't stockpile picks and stop. He turned some into players and kept the rest as options. That is the cleanest asset position in the league.
lilsweet96 built the opposite way and got to the same place. Wemby and friends is the youngest core here, and it exists because he took the two 2026 firsts and the 2027 first he drafted in dispersal, the only GM who drafted future firsts at all, and spent them into Victor Wembanyama, then flipped Scottie Barnes, Paolo Banchero, and Kon Knueppel to goochshot to get him. His paper isn't gone, he still holds brodiedean8's 2026 first and alecb5's 2027 first, and the young roster sits on top of it. The whole timeline rides on one medical fact: Wembanyama's 2025 issue was a deep vein thrombosis, and he is reportedly expected to make a full recovery. If that holds, lilsweet96 paid a mid-first's worth of picks for a cornerstone and this build ages beautifully. If it wobbles, he still holds picks to soften it.
Which franchise gets the cleanest path from this draft board?
Paper Only Pays If Somebody Falls
The paper-holders are making a quieter bet, and it is worth naming plainly. A first you own only converts high if the team that owes it falls. Natebarrett5's three firsts are bets that 44Colt and brodiedean8 bottom out. Here is the counter-case a sharp reader raises: 44Colt is running Giannis, Booker, and Devin Booker's supporting cast now, and brodiedean8 traded his entire future for a young core of Amen Thompson, Stephon Castle, Derik Queen, and Trae Young. Neither roster is built to finish last. If both stay in the middle, those celebrated firsts convert as late-twenties selections, which is precisely why Dybantsa in hand is worth more than three picks in theory. Realized beats contingent. That gap is the reason a paper-holder should be shopping a first at peak belief right now, before a season of games proves the sellers didn't collapse.
The franchise nobody has covered is Nighthawk2334, and his one move is the tell. Shane Gillis Alexander sent Nikola Jović, Tre Johnson, and his 2026 and 2027 seconds to matticus808 for Tyler Herro and Neemias Queta. He cashed two young players and two years of second-round capital for a veteran scorer who reportedly just endured a tough, injury-hit season. That is a win-now lever pulled by a roster that hasn't earned a win-now window yet, and it leaves him thin on both youth and picks. Of everyone here, he is the one who spent like a contender without the contender's floor.
As for the top of the next order, there is nothing earned yet, because no games have tipped. But it is being engineered anyway. matticus808 and Natebarrett5 have essentially placed advance orders on the top of the 2027 and 2028 drafts by owning the picks of the two teams they most expect to fall. That is the modern version of tanking where you don't lose the games yourself, but instead buy the right to the games somebody else loses.
Three things I am tracking through this class on dynasty value:
- Darryn Peterson's usage in Utah. matticus808's rebuild has a lot of young guards, and the one with a defined real-world role is the one whose value compounds fastest.
- Wembanyama's health timeline. It is not one player's story, but rather the entire ceiling of lilsweet96's franchise in a single medical note.
- Whether Natebarrett5 or matticus808 flips a first before opening night. Every game 44Colt and brodiedean8 win quietly marks those picks down.
The Ledger, Franchise By Franchise
Capital read, franchise by franchise:
- matticus808 (asset-rich): Three firsts plus a rookie stash; the deepest position in the league.
- Natebarrett5 (asset-rich): Three firsts and the Dybantsa haul already realized.
- goochshot (balanced): Owns brodiedean8's 2029 first, thin on his own near ones, veteran-heavy roster around it.
- lilsweet96 (rebuilding): Youngest core, still holds a 2026 and 2027 first, heavily levered to Wemby.
- alecb5 (balanced): Defending champ who sold his 2028 first to matticus808 to win now.
- BigSuge (balanced): Holds brodiedean8's 2027 first behind a win-now vet room.
- avery228 (balanced): Anthony Edwards at the center, modest pick draw, Jaylon Tyson a real upside stash.
- Nighthawk2334 (pick-poor): Spent youth and seconds on a veteran scorer; the shakiest capital base here.
- brodiedean8 (pick-poor): Sold his 2027, 2028, and 2029 firsts; the young core is the whole bet.
- 44Colt (pick-poor): All three future firsts gone, roster front-loaded with stars.
The picks with the biggest names attached already have owners, and the owners already put them in uniforms. What is left on the market is faith that lightning strikes the same rebuild twice.
